Hello!
Welcome to my kitchen! I’ve been in the food business for over 20 years as a restaurant cook, baker, cooking teacher, test kitchen manager and restaurant critic. Along the way I sang lead in a rock band, got a master’s degree in literature and was Food Director of Chatelaine and a regular on Cityline and CBC Radio.
I’m a teacher, a writer, a working mom and a mediocre knitter.
My superpower is helping home cooks make dinner uncomplicated.
At home in Toronto, my partner Michael and I cook every night. That’s anything from roast chicken to a tuna sandwich. Michael eats everything; our son Thomas does not. But dinner is still the best part of our day.

My books
Uncomplicated
Over 120 recipes that prove cooking doesn’t have to be difficult to be delicious!!
Every one of my recipes is tested using a rigorous process so you know it will work just as it should. Plus I share how to skip or combine steps, to invite the kids in, to host a dinner party without anxiety, and to remember that food should bring joy.
*IMPORTANT NOTE: As of 2021, this book is out of print. I am heartbroken; but this was the publisher's decision. There are still a few individual copies in some independent bookstores, and you can often find excellent-quality second hand copies via the ‘Zon. Click here.
Dinner, Uncomplicated
My second book focuses on making dinner easier, faster and less stressful. It’s a deep-dive into how (and why) making dinner can be the highlight of your day.
These 90 recipes follow my uncomplicated philosophy: Easy to shop for (and they don’t break the bank!) easy to prep (no fancy skills or equipment required) and easy to clean up (does anyone actually like doing dishes??). Best of all they are incredibly delicious!
Available everywhere including indie bookstores, my house (send me an email!) and our global overlord.
